Thermal Label Application Guide in Winter

Release time:

2024-12-06

As winter arrives, couriers don their heavy work clothes and rush through the city's streets and alleys. In such cold weather, thermal paper labels on express packages also face the test of a harsh environment. What should we pay attention to ensure the label application result? Wampolet will provide you some useful technical tips.

Application Temperature
The ideal application temperature should be maintained between 10C and 25C. If the temperature is too low, the adhesion of the pressure-sensitive label will be dropped significantly, resulting in label lifting.

Storage Conditions
The storage temperature for labels should not be too low. If you place the labels outdoors or store them in a low-temperature environment, the label adhesive may freeze. If not handled properly, the adhesion of the adhesive will decrease drastically or even be lost. In addition, since thermal labels are made of special coated materials, the storage requirement is more strict. It is important to maintain dry, ventilated, and dust-free conditions, and avoid humidity, high temperatures, sun exposure, and contact with solvents, acids, alkalis, and other chemicals to prevent damage to the thermal-sensitive coating.

Pre-treatment to the Labels
If the labels have been at a low temperature for a period or have been frozen, even if the application temperature meets the requirements, the adhesive of the labels will be weak. Please place the label rolls in a warm environment for a period of time (preferably more than 24 hours) before labeling to allow the label adhesive to recover.

Labeling Process
During the labeling process, it is crucial to apply the label to the package with sufficient pressure. Proper pressure will help completely expel the air between the label and the substrate and make the label adhere firmly to the package. Additionally, substrate surface cleaning is another key factor to ensure label adhesion.

After Labeling
The adhesion build-up of pressure-sensitive labels usually requires a period of time (generally 24 hours) to gradually reach its ultimate adhesion. Therefore, do not place newly labeled packages in a low-temperature environment immediately to prevent label lifting or even falling off due to unstable adhesion.

To ensure the performance of thermal labels in cold seasons, Wampolet has launched a winter adhesive series product line, significantly enhancing the thermal labels' performance in low-temperature environments, allowing your thermal labels to pass through every stage safely during storage, transportation, and express delivery.
